As people across Tampa Bay enjoy festive feasts this holiday weekend, some of the animals at The Florida Aquarium are getting a taste of celebrating Independence Day as well. The Aquarium’s Animal Care team prepared enrichment experiences, tailored to each animal’s diet, including icy treats for the lemurs and corn on the cob for the sloth.

Annie, Lulu, and Remmy, the ring-tailed lemurs, got a tasty rendition of a red, white, and blue “bomb pop” ice pop packed with strawberries, bananas, and blueberries.
Apaporis (ah-puh-pour-ee), the two toed sloth, munched on one of his favorite snacks: fresh corn on the cob.

Biologists say the special treats are part of the animals’ balanced diets but offer variety they don’t get every day. The enrichment activities encourage natural behaviors like foraging and problem solving, supporting the animals’ physical and mental wellbeing.

With rain in the forecast this weekend, it’s the perfect time to visit the animals inside the indoor, air-conditioned downtown Tampa destination. To plan your day at The Florida Aquarium, get tickets, and make reservations, visit flaquarium.org.
