Alyssa Blew, VMD Associate Veterinarian at The Florida AquariumAlyssa Blew, VMD

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Alyssa Blew is an associate veterinarian at The Florida Aquarium, responsible for the preventative, diagnostic and medical care of a large array of species including sharks and rays, sea turtles, otters, lemurs, fish and invertebrates plus reptiles and insects. She and the team provide specialized and compassionate care to the rescued animals in the Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center and Coral Conservation and Research Center.

Alyssa earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida and spent seven years working in animal behavior and training at Discovery Cove Orlando. She then obtained her doctoral veterinary degree at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. As a veterinary student, she completed externships with both SeaWorld Orlando and the Georgia Aquarium. She also obtained the Aquatic Animal Medicine Certificate. Following graduation, Alyssa completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of San Marcos, Calif. She then obtained a zoological fellowship at the Vancouver Aquarium in Vancouver, Canada, working with the aquarium animals as well as the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society, where she worked mainly with neonatal and juvenile harbor seals. Alyssa joined the Aquarium in 2024.
