Enjoy the lush mangrove trees that have been flourishing at the Aquarium for 30 years. Lock eyes with an alligator, walk alongside the playful river otters, and marvel at roseate spoonbills and a white ibis. Gain a new appreciation for the animals that live in Florida’s freshwater and brackish environments as you explore this immersive habitat.

Animal Spotlights

Roseate Spoonbill

Wonderfully unique, with pink feathers, red eyes, and a half-bald head, this wading bird sifts through the mud for food with its flat, wide bill.

North American River Otter

A playful mammal with thick fur and webbed feet, the river otter can stay underwater for as long as eight minutes.

American White Ibis

The white ibis strolls through the wetlands, using its curved pink bill to probe for frogs, snakes, fish, crayfish, and crabs.

Our Conservation Priorities

Restoring Wetland Habitats

Restoration efforts are critical for replenishing species, especially in the face of wetland habitat destruction. At The Florida Aquarium, we’re taking action — from implementing a badge program that teaches scouts to grow mangrove seedlings to restoring mangrove habitats in the wild.
