Dive Volunteers

Dive Volunteer

dive in to volunteerism

Become a Florida Aquarium Volunteer Diver! This challenging yet rewarding experience will enhance basic diving skills and give volunteers access to experiences unavailable to most divers. Swim with sharks, rays, fish, eels and so much more while contributing to our guest experience.

Dive volunteers primarily assist with maintenance of our exhibits and clean-up dives. After training, volunteers may also have the opportunity to take part in guest interactions, daily dive shows, and conservation research and fieldwork. Dive volunteers must be 18+, open water SCUBA certified with 25+ open water dives, and willing and able to make a one-year commitment to our program.

The first step to become a volunteer diver at The Florida Aquarium is to attend one of our Volunteer Diver information sessions. Our team will go over program expectations, prerequisites and training content. You will also have the opportunity to meet our current dive staff and volunteers and ask questions.

Information Sessions

After attending the information session, divers may be chosen for the program and scheduled for training. Due to high demand, not all divers will be scheduled for training. All of the training will take place in our diverse underwater habitats and most diving equipment is provided. Once scheduled for training, to formally be accepted into the program, volunteers will also need to pass the following:

  • An AAUS dive physical
  • An AAUS swim test
  • A basic dive skills evaluation
