Completion of the Florida Aquarium's Scientific Aquarium Diver program is a challenging yet rewarding undertaking which will enhance your basic diving skills, while giving you access to experiences unavailable to most divers. If you provide an enthusiastic attitude and a willingness to learn, we’ll provide you with the training necessary to safely dive in our aquatic habitats.
Florida Aquarium Diver Prerequisites:
18 years of age
Open Water certified or above
Completed at least 25 open water dives
All divers in our program are required to pass a AAUS dive physcial, a swim test, and a basic skills evaluation. More information on these criteria will be given at our new diver orientation sesssions which are required for all new volunteer divers. These sessions will be offered several times per year. For additional information on these sessions click HERE.
After meeting all prerequisites and attending one of the orientation sessions, divers will be enrolled in one of our upcoming Scientific Aquarium Diver courses. This course will train you to safely work underwater at The Florida Aquarium. All of the training will take place in our diverse underwater habitats!
The primary task provided by our volunteer divers is exhibit maintenance. However, after meeting additional requirements, there are also opportunities to assist with our daily dive presentations and offsite conservation and research diving.
We are specifically recruiting Divemasters and Instructors to assist with our Guest Dive Programs (CLICK HERE
for more info) and individuals of any certification level with daytime availability during the week (Monday-Friday).”
If you have any questions about your dive training, please feel free to contact us.
