The Florida Aquarium internships offer a well-rounded, educational experience working in a variety of areas within the Aquarium. Depending on the type of internship, duties may include assisting biologists with daily husbandry duties, daily food preparation and feeding, animal training and guest animal shows, assisting biologists and veterinary staff with medical procedures and treatments, assisting biologists with animal field collections and field research. Specialized duties may include the husbandry ofand on Weedy and Leafy Sea dragons, and various other species of seahorses, North American river otters, sea turtles, sharks, reptiles and amphibians, avian husbandry, and animal program shows and training.
Opportunities are available in the following areas of the Husbandry Department:
- Animal Programs
- Coral Reef husbandry
- Sea Dragon/Sea Horse husbandry
- Wetlands husbandry
- Avian husbandry
- Reptile/Herp husbandry
Note: Many of the duties must be performed from inside the exhibits (interns will get wet and dirty).
- Must be enrolled in a degree program.
- Must submit resume, and a cover letter which outlines your area of interest and your availability.
- Internships are on a volunteer basis.
- A minimum of 15 hours per week is required.
