The Florida Aquarium's eco-tour boat, the Bay Spirit II, encounters bottlenose dolphins almost every time it goes out (usually twice a day most days of the year). However, we know very little of the population of animals that inhabits the waters of upper Tampa Bay. One way to track them is through photo-identification of dorsal fins, unique to each animal. The Center for Conservation's Dolphin Photo ID Program aims to learn more about our resident dolphins and track the health and resilience of the Tampa Bay population. Our data are then shared with partner institutions to learn more about the home range and habitat use of dolphins throughout the Gulf Coast of Florida.
The Center for Conservation is seeking a Research Intern to conduct photo identification surveys of bottlenose dolphins aboard The Florida Aquarium's Ecotour Boat, The Bay Spirit II.
