Education- Animal Care

The Florida Aquarium Education-Animal Care internship offers a well-rounded, educational experience working with our Animal Care team in our Education department.

Specialized internships are designed to provide valuable hands on experience in the care of specific animals and habitats at an AZA accredited, world class facility.

Interns are responsible for assistance with a variety of educational programs and daily outreach animal care.  A typical day would include animal care and maintenance and could include tasks such as:

  • Working with school groups in a classroom setting
  • Educational outreach in the community
  • Interacting with Aquarium visitors on the exhibit path
  • Interacting with families for special programs (e.g. special events, tabling, etc.).


  • Must be a college sophomore or higher or up to 6 months post graduate with a GPA of 2.5/4.0 or higher.
  • Must be able to work in both a group and individual environment.
  • Have a general understanding of working with different types of animals.
  • Willingness to do physical labor on a daily basis in sometimes hot/cramped spaces.  
    Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, or related discipline.  (Associates degree working towards Bachelor’s degree also accepted.)
    Willingness to work with mammals, birds, reptiles (snakes and crocodilians), amphibians, fish, and invertebrates (tarantulas etc.).
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one within one month of hire.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Internship is 10 weeks in duration in which at least 1 project must be completed. A minimum of 32 hours per week is required.
