        Dive Volunteers

Becoming a Florida Aquarium Volunteer Diver is a challenging yet rewarding experience which enhances basic diving skills, while giving volunteers access to experiences unavailable to most divers.

Swim with sharks, rays, fish, eels and so much more while contributing to our guest experience and helping us to Protect & Restore our Blue Planet!

Dive volunteers primarily assist with maintenance of our exhibits and clean-up dives. After training, volunteers may also have the opportunity to take part in guest interactions, daily dive shows, and conservation research and field work. Dive volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, open water SCUBA certified with 25 or more open water dives, and willing and able to make a 1 year commitment to our program.

The first step in becoming a volunteer diver at The Florida Aquarium is to attend one of our Volunteer Dive Information Sessions where our team will go over program expectations, prerequisites and training content. You will also have the opportunity to meet our current dive staff and volunteers and ask questions.

The next Dive Volunteer Information Session is scheduled for:
Tuesday September 12th at 6:30pm

After attending the information session, divers may be chosen for the program and scheduled for training. Due to high demand, not all divers will be scheduled for training. All of the training will take place in our diverse underwater habitats and most diving equipment is provided. Once scheduled for training, to formally be accepted into the program, volunteers will also need to pass the following:

  • An AAUS dive physical
  • An AAUS swim test
  • A basic dive skills evaluation

The Florida Aquarium is also seeking highly motivated dive professionals to contribute to our Guest Dive Experience Program. Our volunteer dive masters are responsible for running the in-water and dry side support for our programs, as well as all affiliated tasks. If you are interested in assisting with the Guest Dive Experiences, you must:

  • Attend a volunteer dive master information session
  • Hold a dive master certification or higher from a nationally recognized organization (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc.)
  • Pass a dive safety examination
  • Pass an AAUS diving physical and swim test
  • Complete our Scientific Aquarium Diver Course
  • Participate in a working interview

The next Dive Master Volunteer Information Session is scheduled for:

Tuesday August 8th 6:00pm-8:00pm
